Different Types of Blogs

There are a lot of different types of blogs out there. From personal to corporate, every blog serves a purpose. Here are a few of the types of sites you’re likely to find in the blogosphere:
- Personal/casual blogs – These types of blogs aren’t out there to do anything special. They are essentially nothing more than an online journal, and may not be interesting to anyone outside of the blogger’s circle of family and friends. They’re usually a subdomain of a free blogging or social networking site, such as Blogger, WordPress, MySpace, and LiveJournal.
- Marketing blogs – These blogs are are maintained for the purpose of marketing the company’s products or services. They do this by helping to generate higher search engine rankings via link popularity and an increased presence in the online community. Some Internet marketing companies use these types of blogs as part of their link popularity services, also known as link building services.
- Corporate blogs – There are also many company blogs or corporate blogs out there. These blogs are often published on a subdomain of the company’s website, or on a unique, meaningful URL. These blogs also help to boost search engine rankings because of the frequency with which they are published (something that Google takes into account when determining PageRank). Posts on these blogs also often target specific keywords, in the hopes of pulling in potential customers via keyword searches. Some companies outsource these blogs, so that they are actually maintained as part of a consultant’s Internet marketing services.
Whether created by a family member or friend, a link building expert, or an Internet marketing company, there is a blog online for almost any subject you could ever dream of!
