Keep Your Credit Cards Safe

Credit card fraud can be avoided by shredding your receipts, statements and unused credit cards. Keep your credit cards and your identity from being stolen by taking extra precautions when using them when shopping or dining out. The following tips are listed for the prevention of identity theft and ways to keep your credit cards safe.

Never carry too many credit cards when you are shopping at the grocery or at the mall. Bring only one or two and don’t apply for the special discount when you are checking out and the clerk asks you if you would like to get 10% off. If you have to sign for a purchase, always make sure that you stay aware of eyes that may be lurking behind you taking down your information. When you get your receipt, store it in your billfold until you get home, record them in your books and then send them through the paper shredder. Buy a personal shredder and some shredder oil to keep it working efficiently and use it to shred all of your credit card receipts after you have made note of them in your records.

A good personal shredder will allow you to effectively destroy the sensitive information that is listed on your monthly statements for credit cards and any other documents. Having a personal shredder in your home would help protect your identity by keeping it out of the hands of thieves.
