Choosing the Right Web Hosting Domain Name

After you’ve selected your web host, you’re going to need to make several decisions about setting up your website. One of the first things that you’re going to need to decide is what your web hosting domain name is going to be. You can name your site anything that’s not already taken but there are some tips that you can implement to get better traffic to your site based on the domain you choose.

Here are some tips for selecting a web domain name:

  • Use real words. Yes, thereĀ are words like “google” that weren’t commonly used until the website made them popular. Chances are that you’re not going to have a website as big as Google so go with real words that people already know.
  • Keep to the theme of your website. Use a domain name that specifically says what you’re selling on your website.
  • Favor long domains instead of acronyms. Many people will tell you to choose a short domain name. That’s true, but it’s preferable to go longer and avoid acronyms than to stay short but not memorable. For example, YourFavoriteShoesAndSlippers is better than YFSAS.

Once you’ve selected your domain name, the hard part is done. Decisions will follow (such as whether to use vps hosting or database hosting) but you’ll find that the name is the most difficult decision you’ll be making.
